New Meridian Franchise Team Name Announced
Meridian’s New Baseball Team to Play as the “Meridian Blues”
Meridian, MS – The Mid-America League is proud to announce the official team name for its newest franchise; The Meridian Blues. The name was selected from over 600 name submissions over the past two months. The announcement marks a major milestone for professional baseball’s return to Meridian and reflects the city’s rich musical and cultural heritage.
After months of brand development, community engagement, and local feedback, league officials selected “Blues” as a tribute to Meridian’s deep roots in American music history. As the birthplace of Jimmie Rodgers—known as “The Father of Country Music” and “America’s Blue Yodeler” —and a historic stop along the blues and roots music corridor, Meridian’s identity is inseparable from its artistic legacy. The Meridian Blues name embraces that history with a bold, modern baseball identity designed to resonate with fans of all ages.
“Meridian has a story to tell, and our goal was to create a brand that feels authentic, energetic, and uniquely tied to this community,” said Mark Schuster, Founder of the Mid-America League. “The Meridian Blues represent not only the city’s musical heritage but also the rhythm, heartbeat, and passion that this team will bring to the diamond.”
The logo was created by Bryan Creative and features a red fox as part of the primary logo. The red fox was chosen as the Meridian Blues mascot because it embodies both local pride and the spirit of the organization. As the official state mammal of Mississippi, the red fox creates a meaningful connection to home while giving the Blues a symbol that is authentic and recognizable. Its sharp features and bold personality translate naturally into dynamic mascot and apparel designs that will resonate with youth and fans of all ages. Just as the Blues name evokes sound and rhythm, red foxes are highly vocal animals, known for communicating through a wide range of calls, often heard after dark, adding a subtle but powerful tie to the Blues identity. The red fox reflects the competitive edge, creativity, and confidence that will define Meridian Blues baseball both on and off the field.
“Meridian, Mississippi matters and today’s announcement reflects that. As more families and businesses choose our city, we’re proud to welcome America’s pastime back to Meridian as another sign of our momentum in action. I’m grateful to our CAO Craig Hitt for his leadership and persistence in bringing this vision to life.”
The Meridian Blues will play their home games at Skaggs Field on the campus of Meridian Community College, which is undergoing enhancements ahead of Opening Day. Fans are encouraged to go to meridianblues.com to receive information about season tickets, sponsorship and general information for the 2026 season. Merchandise orders will be available soon on the team’s official website and social media channels.
“The Meridian Blues embody everything the Mid-America League strives for—community connection, local pride, and a brand that truly reflects the heartbeat of its city,” said Nick Weisenborn, Commissioner of the Mid-America League. “We’re building more than a baseball team in Meridian—we’re building a cultural touchpoint that fans will rally around for generations.”

Launched in 2024, the Mid America League has quickly become one of the premier independent summer baseball leagues in America. The league features top collegiate players alongside post-college players pursuing professional baseball careers. These athletes include players who were undrafted, unsigned free agents, or former professionals working to return to affiliated baseball. The league compensates its players through a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program, which is closely monitored by the league.
